Founded in 2007 by Melissa Gendreau, the main goal of Perceptions Dance is to present contemporary dance that is accessible and exciting to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.  The Company aspires to create dance that engages audiences through choreography that demonstrates a physical language for human emotion and thought.

Perceptions Dance is also committed to creating art that contributes to the community in meaningful way through service and performance. The company has a strong focus on outreach, using performance, education and more to assist charities and non-profit organizations.  Perceptions has teamed up with organizations like FrockOn.com, HauteNYC, Lisa Gabrielle and Bridgewater State College in addition to running solo events to help raise funds for charities like Park Slope Safe Homes Project, Medical Angels, Massachusetts Eating Disorder Association, Community Systems Inc., Curry Without Worry and more.

THE FOUNDER

Melissa Gendreau spent years performing as a freelance dancer with various companies before founding Perceptions Dance with the vision of creating access to dance for audiences of all kinds.  Since, Melissa’s work has been supported and commissioned by organizations like The Field, Silo/DanceNOW, Providence College, Salve Regina University, The Dance Complex, San Francisco Choral Society, San Francisco Arts Commission, and many others.  Melissa received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Dean College, and Masters of Science in Arts Administration from Drexel University.  Melissa is faculty at the Legacy Dance Company, Bedford Dance Center, Kearsarge Conservatory for the Arts, and is the Director of the Bedford Dance Center Youth Repertory Ensemble.
